Sabrina Amrani participa en Art Stage Singapore por primera vez, con una muestra individual del artista emergente surcoreano americano Timothy Hyunsoo Lee. En esta obra, el artista se duplica a sí mismo como una multiplicidad de identidades espectrales, transiciones y pasajes. La experiencia prematura de la inmigración y el trastorno psicológico, sitúa a Lee en una posición privilegiada de alteridad radical. Usando el papel como medio primario y metáfora, el mundo de Lee parece elástico y volátil, casi más allá del límite, pero misteriosamente en reposo.
El artista parte de su propia experiencia traumática de trastornos de ansiedad y pánico durante la infancia, lo que luego se traduce en su obra como un sitio de reconstrucción: el cruzado con la realidad, el epicentro del trauma, sólo se puede explorar a través de la repetición y el escrutinio. Lee traza cartografías y topologías en acuarelas de gran tamaño que funcionan tanto como superficie como de objeto. En sus obras participan todo tipo de movimientos y curvaturas, dividiendo la gravedad del espacio en una extensión continúa de vestigios e impresiones. Más allá de las imposiciones rígidas del arte conceptual, Lee se aleja del reduccionismo, liberando a la expresión de la descripción.
En sus más recientes trabajos de 2014, de la serie ‘Impressions’, Composition I, Composition I and Gasp, Shit (Composition V), el artista ha interiorizado su ‘otro ser’, con el fin de crear estructuras cada vez más complejas, al mismo tiempo abstractas e íntimas, una arquitectura de la mente. El doble desfigura al original, perturba el orden entre el mundo real y la presencia del arte: “El arte perturba la oposición entre estos dos mundos, hace que cada uno desvanezca dentro del otro.”
La exposición tendrá lugar del 22 al 25 Enero 2015 en Sabrina Amrani Gallery Booth H2 – Hall principal.

Sabrina Amrani presents a solo show by Timothy Hyunsoo Lee. at Art Stage Singapore 2015, where the artist doubles himself as a multiplicity of ghost identities, transitions and throughways. The early experience of immigration and psychological disorder placed Lee in a privileged position of radical otherness. Using paper as his primary medium and metaphor, Lee’s world appears elastic and volatile, almost at breaking point, yet mysteriously at rest.
The artist draws on his own traumatic experience of anxiety and panic disorders as a child, which then translated into his work as a site of reconstruction: the missed encounter with the real at the heart of trauma can only be explored through repetition and surveying. Lee maps out cartographies and topologies onto large-scale watercolors, which operate as both surface and object. Beyond the rigid impositions of conceptual art, Lee turns away from reductionism, liberating expression from description.
In the most recent works from the 2014 series ‘Impressions’, Composi- tion I, Composition I and Composition IV, the artist has internalized his ‘other self’, in order to create ever more complex structures, simulta-neously abstract and intimate, an architecture of the mind. The double disfigures the original, disturbs the order between the real world and the presence of art: “Art upsets the opposition between these two worlds, causes each to slip into the other.”
